Namaste Everyone. You guys must have seen monks and maybe normal people on the shore closing their eyes and breathing long. Yes! They are meditating.
So what is Meditation actually?
Meditation in the most simple words is training your mind to relax and gain inner peace (ya.. you’ve heard this word in Kungfu Panda 2).
Mediation can be an effective form of stress reduction and has the potential to improve quality of life and decrease health care costs.
According to Wikipedia, Meditation refers to the seventh of the eight limbs of Yoga in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a step called dhyana in Sanskrit.
Meditation is not religion dependent. Anyone can practice it anywhere and at any time they are comfortable. This is not something that has stuck as a superstitious belief but has been scientifically proven to work.
So let’s check out three main reasons one should meditate:
1. Positivity and happiness:
It is scientifically researched and found meditators have higher alpha brain waves which have shown to reduce negative moods, tension, sadness and anger.
2. Builds up Memory power:
Meditation is great for building your pre-frontal cortex. These are responsible for controlling your impulses and your learning curve. So basically you can be smarter, thinker and disciplined with less pain to your mind. It improves your performance in relationship, work, study and everything because you know it reduces stress.
3. Benefit of brain health:
Meditating is just like going to gym and building up your physical muscles, but this one is for your mind. More you use your mind, more it gets sharpened. You get your things done well. You’ll learn to concentrate on your work and on your study. You don’t get distracted easily. You learn the beauty of life and meaning of living in peace.
This maybe just few benefits of mediation but listing all will not be possible either.
Here in our institute, we train our students to meditate for relaxation. There are several types of them and all of these are crucial part of Yoga Asana. Mediation is included in all our stress management courses, yoga retreat packages and teacher training packages.
